December 13-December 17

(You'll have to come see Mrs. Thacker for the paper and if you have any questions.
December 13, 2010

1. Grab two pieces of paper from the top of the sorter (two different colors)

2. Write an example of a simile or metaphor about a snowflake.

3. Personify a snowflake

4. Cut out two snowflakes. Write the simile on one and the personification on the other.

Hmmm...can't remember what those are? No worries. Simile is comparing two things using like or as. Personification is adding life-like characteristics to things that are not alive.

Example of simile: The snowflake falls like a graceful dancer, twisting and turning through the gray sky.

Personification: The snowflake, determined in its purpose, pushes through the heavy, night air and blankets my windshield in a merciless fury.

During the course of our lives, we have "defining moments". We stand at a crossroads and we could take the left path or the right. We could take a job and move to France. We could date this person or that person. We could hang out with this friend or that. We could play this sport or that sport. Write about a tricky decision you've had to make. Which path did you take? Do you think you made the right decision? (1/2 page)
